I do think small talk is necessary for a start between strangers; you can’t go into the depths of their lives without first getting past the sanity filter and establish some sort of comfort or similarity between you two. This occurs when you meet someone for the first time, or in a business setting. This phase allows us a chance to know more, and thereafter be curious about their lives.
