Thanks for the insights. We don't need another digital wallet in SG. But comparing the UI between our current options, GPay goes provide a superior experience. In same way Grab outdone Uber in SG, could GPay be the winner here next time?

There is a lot of value in cleaning up their database and combining virtual + physical behaviour, even if used internally to become a smarter company. But i suspect it could help to introduce personalised financial products to users when these financial institutions become Google's affiliates.

All merchants that accept Visa Paywave and Mastercard Paypass can take GPay. It's just the Apple devices that are stuck on APay. But that said GPay has exclusive merchant chat channels that you can 'talk' to, like GV and Burger King. Unlike APay, they're currently not charging merchants transaction fee so that's how they're starting out.

A lot of money in this!! It better work.
